Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 and the Ende, Menzer, Walsh & Quinn Retirees', Widows' & Children's Assistance Fund have established a memorial fund to benefit the family of Captain Herbert "Herbie" Johnson, who perished Nov. 2, 2012, fighting a fire in the Back of the Yards. BMO Harris Bank is partnering with the organizations to receive donations to the memorial fund.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic event of November 2 and we will never forget Captain Johnson's sacrifice," said Thomas Ryan, President of Local 2. "He was a great firefighter, but the most important role Herbie played was as a father and husband, and we are doing everything possible to support those he loved and cherished the most his in life, his wife, two sons and daughter."

"Captain Johnson made Chicago a safer place - his bravery was known far and wide," said Mark Furlong, President and CEO, BMO Harris Bank.  "We are deeply saddened by this loss, and my colleagues and I are proud to open a bank account in his honor. We encourage people to visit a local BMO Harris branch and make a donation, and BMO Harris is committing $10,000 in his honor."

"Chicago lost a very courageous man. The City has come together to honor Herbie's life and to be there for his family, and for this, the department is extremely grateful," said Tony Martin, President of the Chicago Fireman's Ende, Menzer, Walsh & Quinn Retirees', Widows' & Children's Assistance Fund, and Secretary of the Fireman's Annuity & Benefit Fund of Chicago. "We're also grateful to BMO Harris Bank for their generosity and kindness in establishing this memorial fund and their financial contribution."
