COMMANDING FIRE MARSHAL MICHAEL V.  MURPHY MEMORIAL FUND

The EMWQ Retirees', Widows' & Children's Assistance Fund and Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 established a memorial fund to benefit the family of Chicago Fire Department Commanding Fire Marshal Michael V. Murphy, OFI who died May 7, 2017.  

The Ende, Menzer, Walsh & Quinn Retirees' Widows' and Children’s Assistance Fund provides immediate assistance to children of a parent who dies while an active member of the Chicago Fire Department. The EMWQ Retirees', Widows' & Children's Assistance Fund is also given the solemn task of creating memorial funds for the families of Chicago Fire Department Line of Duty Deaths. 

Chief Murphy, 56 leaves behind his widow Sarah, daughter Clare, sons John and Will.

Donations can be made online at www.widowsandchildren.org, in person at any BMO Harris Bank branch, or by mail EMWQ Murphy Memorial Fund, 20 S. Clark St. Suite 1400, Chicago IL 60603 (checks payable to “EMWQ Michael Murphy Memorial Fund”).

Chief Murphy joined the Chicago Fire Department in 1996. He worked on Truck 15 as a candidate and served on Squad 1 from 1997 to 2008. Chief Murphy joined the Office of Fire Investigations in 2008 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2011. He was promoted in 2015 to deputy district chief and named Commanding Fire Marshal supervising the Office of Fire Investigations.

Murphy; Age 56; Devoted husband of Sarah, nee Stanley, for 31 years; Loving father of Clare, John, and William; Beloved son of Rosemarie and the late John; Cherished brother of Karen, Mark (Julia), and Daniel (Danielle); Dear brother-in-law of Bobbe (Gene) Rupnik, Judy (Thomas) Odom, Tom (Chris), Susan, Tony, Tim, and Joe (Sarah); Fond uncle, great-uncle and friend to many; Deputy District Chief and Commander, Office of Fire Investigations Chicago Fire Department, and loyal Chicago Firefighter for over 20 years; Former Cross Country and Track Catholic League Coach of the Year, and Physics teacher at St. Rita High School; Proud captain of his boat, Proteus; Visitation Thursday 3:30 to 9:00 p.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 101st & Longwood Drive, Chicago; Funeral Friday, relatives and friends will meet directly at St. Barnabas Church; Mass 10:30 a.m. Interment Private.

The Ende, Menzer, Walsh & Quinn Retirees', Widows' and Children's Assistance Fun is mission is to provide financial assistance to the neediest widows and children of members of the Chicago Fire Department. The EMWQ Retirees Widows and Children’s Assistance Fund was granted tax exempt charitable status under IRS Code Section 501
(c)(3) on April 23, 2007. The tax exempt status allows all contributions to be used as a tax deduction for the donor. All program distributions made from the Fund are nontaxable to the recipient.



Donation acknowledgement forms will be generated for all contributions of $250 or more in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service guidelines. Individuals needing tax receipts will be required to use a check or donate online.
